GLENDOWER: I can call spirits
from the vasty deep.
HOTSPUR: Why so can I,
or so can any man; But will they
come when you do call for them?
William Shakespeare -

The three most interesting
characters in history, real
or imagined, are Jesus Christ,
Sherlock Holmes and
Harry Houdini.

What is PHANTOMS ?

PHANTOMS is a theatrical recreation of an
authentic Victorian era
Séance. The show
takes place in the home of a host, or (
in a
more elaborate version)
on a theater stage.
Featured in the production are the "spirits" of
individuals who were prominent in the early
20th-Century Séance Scene.

...These include two men who were among
the most famous of their time. The escape
artist and magician
Harry Houdini rekindled
his career by exposing the tricks used by
fraudulent spirit mediums. On the other side
of the issue was Sherlock Holmes' creator,
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. ..Doyle, a "true
believer" in ghostly manifestations, was a
champion of the Spiritualist medium's cause.
Their mutual interest in spirit communication
helped the men forge a tenuous friendship.
Often strained, the relationship finally fell
apart entirely because of comments each
man made in public, and in the press, about
the other.
Our "SPIRITED" Cast Includes
"Margery," Harry Houdini
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and You
....One reason the two men
argued was the manner in
which Houdini participated in
the investigation of a popular
Séance Medium who called
herself "
Margery."
Houdini, in exposing the fake
tricks of Margery, was himself
accused of employing trickery
to create the false impression
that the medium was cheating.
In our live program PHANTOMS,
items actually owned by these
key players are incorporated
with vintage, 19th Century,
Séance props to re-create the
classic "things that go bump in
the night" Séance experience.
...While we attempt to call forth
no "real" ghosts in the program,
audience participants will leave
with the sensation that they've
experienced a
genuine
Victorian-era Spirit Séance.
PHANTOMS is not presented in a dreary atmosphere, but is, rather, conducted
in the manner and for the purpose Séances were normally performed in the late
1800s... to provide an evening of mysterious, yet thrilling, entertainment.
